Drakensberg Range
The Drakensberg of Kwazulu-Natal: Stories from a Mountain Range In December 2000 Unesco declared the uKhalamba-Drakensberg Park a World Heritage site on the basis of its scenic beauty, its high degree of biodiversity, and the exceptional cultural value of its heritage of San rock art. The establishment of the WHS provides an occasion for reflecting on the history of the region. This book tells a story about the lives and experiences of people in the Drakensberg region from the earliest known times to the present. It will be of great interest to South African readers hungry for alternative voices to those of the colonial hunters, soldiers, "pioneers," mountaineers, and game rangers who dominate in most of the literature.
Berg wind - The Berg wind is a hot and dry föhn wind which blows from the South Africa plateau and is strongest in the western portion of the sub-continent. It is named from the Drakensberg mountain range, as it moves from inland to the coast and becomes trapped and forced under a cooler layer of air on the leeward side of the mountain range. Champagne Castle, KwaZulu-Natal - Champagne Castle is a mountain in the central Drakensberg range, in South Africa. Zoutspansberg - Zoutspansberg is the old Dutch spelling for the Soutpansberg range of mountains in the northeast of South Africa. They are an extension of the Drakensberg. Meskheti Range - Meskheti Range (Meskh/Meskhet/Meskhetian Range Adzhar-Imereti Range, Adzhar-Akhaltsikh Range) is a part of the Lesser Caucasus mountain range in Georgia.
